Friday 27th of May, 12.45pm & 4pm, St. Andrews Brewhouse, 41 St Andrews St, Norwich NR2 4TP. Tickets £5.50 per session and include 6 samples of beer.
I’m excited to be heading to the UK’s original beer week, Norwich’s City of Ale, at the end of this month. City of Ale was established in 2010 by Pintpicker’s Dawn Leeder and Philip Cutter, landlord at Norwich pub, The Murderers. Since then it’s gone on to become a great celebration of the East Anglian city’s beer culture, and it’s an honour that they’ve asked me to be involved this year.
On Friday the 27th of May join me and Woodforde’s Head Brewer, Belinda Jennings, for a couple of informal, 45 minute beer tastings. As Norfolk produces a significant quantity of barley that goes on to become malt used for brewing, our talk will focus on malt. We’ll sample 3 different Woodforde’s beers alongside 3 others to showcase great malt – as well as letting you try some hop forward beers so that you can compare and contrast the different flavours imparted by these ingredients. We’ll even have some malt on hand for you to taste, so that you can better understand how it contributes to the way your favourite beers taste.
But that’s not all. You can also take in tastings from legendary UK beer writers Roger Protz and Adrian Tierney-Jones, who are teaming up with Poppyland and Adnams breweries respectively. Each writer's session aims to offer something different, so I’d say it’s definitely worth taking in as many as you can. The setting is the fantastic St. Andrews Brewhouse, who brew their own beer on site, so it’s a great place to get your week at City of Ale off to a flying start.
Tickets for all sessions are available on Eventbrite here. We look forward to seeing you down the front!
