I was saddened today to learn that Pierre Zuber, owner of Brussels beer shop and tasting room Délices & Caprices, has passed away. I only had the opportunity to meet Pierre once, while visiting his shop on a while tour of Brussels’ bars in 2015. The cosy store, which sat on the Rue des Bouchers, a short walk from the city’s famous Grand Place, was an essential visit when in town. I understand that has a result of Pierre’s death the store will now close permanently.
The memory I have of him carrying a box of Girardin lambic under one arm, filling glasses with beer whilst simultaneously charming customers with his ebullience, knowledge and enthusiasm, will stay with me forever. Pierre was one of the good ones and his death is a great loss not just to Belgium, but to the global beer community as a whole. He will be missed by us all.
